Uzumasa Summer Night Festival 2026

A blend of Bon Odori dancing, Japanese folklore, and pop culture

Kyoto is no stranger to memorable summer events, but one of this year's most unusual celebrations is taking place on a movie set. Toei Kyoto Studio Park is bringing its historic streets to life after dark with a festival that blends traditional Bon Odori dancing, Japanese folklore, and pop culture.

Running from July 18th through August 30th (with selected closure days), the Uzumasa Summer Night Festival is split into two distinct experiences. The first, Kyoto Bon Dance Night, celebrates Japanese summer traditions with Bon Odori performances alongside beloved Toei characters including Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Pretty Cure, and Ojamajo Doremi. Visitors can also watch performances by geisha from Kyoto's historic Miyagawa-cho district, adding an authentic cultural touch to the festivities.

From August 15th, the atmosphere shifts as Yokai Bon Dance Night takes over. Inspired by Japanese folklore, this portion of the event invites guests to dance alongside elaborately designed yokai while exploring the lantern-lit streets of the movie village. Traditional Bon Odori music is given a modern twist with pop remixes, creating a uniquely Japanese blend of old and new.

Beyond the dancing, the park's Edo-style streets will be lined with festival food stalls, exclusive event snacks and drinks, and plenty of opportunities to soak up the festive atmosphere after dark. It's a chance to experience familiar elements of a Japanese summer festival in a setting unlike anywhere else, with movie sets replacing shrine grounds and superheroes sharing the spotlight with supernatural creatures.

Night admission starts from 2,000 JPY for adults and 1,300 JPY for children. Whether you're drawn by Kyoto's traditional culture, Japan's famous pop culture franchises, or simply want a memorable summer night that's a little out of the ordinary, this festival is well worth adding to your itinerary.
