Each spring, cherry blossom season transforms landscapes across Japan, but in the city of Ibara the experience takes on an especially magical atmosphere after sunset. The Ibara Cherry Blossom Festival invites visitors to enjoy illuminated sakura, where lantern light and reflections on the water create a dreamlike evening setting.

The festival takes place along the banks near Ibara Dam, where an impressive row of cherry trees stretches for roughly two kilometers beside the river. During the event, traditional lanterns are lit each evening, softly illuminating the blossoms and turning the riverside into a glowing nightscape.

Around 800 Somei Yoshino cherry trees line the bank, forming a continuous canopy of pale pink flowers. As darkness falls, the lantern light shines through the blossoms while reflecting gently on the surface of the water below. The combination of glowing lanterns, drifting petals and rippling reflections creates a tranquil, almost otherworldly atmosphere.

Another viewing spot can be found at nearby Aihara Park, where lanterns are also displayed, offering visitors an additional place to enjoy the beauty of the blossoms after dark. Together, the two locations provide a relaxed way to experience hanami in a quieter regional environment.
