El castillo de Tsuruga se encuentra en el centro de la ciudad de Aizuwakamatsu en la prefectura de Fukushima. Fue una de las últimas fortalezas en la Guerra Boshin, en la que los samuráis leales al Shogun se opusieron al nuevo gobierno Meiji.
El castillo original fue construido en 1384 y ha sido habitado y ampliado por varios príncipes a lo largo de la historia japonesa. En el período Edo ganó importancia ya que el castillo estaba ubicado en el dominio de Aizu, que era la mano larga del Shogunato Tokugawa en el norte de la isla principal. Durante la Guerra Civil japonesa Boshin, fue el escenario de la importante batalla de Aizu, en la que las tropas leales al emperador sitiaron el castillo como parte de la Restauración Meiji. El actual castillo fue reconstruido en 1960 y está rodeado por un parque, en el que, además de muchos cerezos, se encuentra la casa de té Rinkaku. Tsuruga Castle (鶴ヶ城), also known as Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle (会津若松城 ), is a major tourist attraction in Tohoku. Located in the Aizu-Wakamatsu area of Fukushima, it becomes an ideal location for viewing the changing colors of leaves during autumn.
Aizuwakamatsu City is well-known for its rich samurai heritage. Every year, a 3-day festival takes place around the castle and down the main street in honor of the 3,000 members of the Aizu Clan who perished during the Boshin Civil War. The main event is a parade consisting of nearly 500 participants dressed as samurai and nobles from various samurai clans.

Die Stadt Aizu Wakamatsu ist bekannt für ihre lange Samurai Geschichte. Jedes Jahr findet hier daher drei Tage lang ein Fest zu Ehren des Aizu Samurai Clans statt, welcher hier einst regierte.
