華厳の滝は、日本三大名瀑（他に那智の滝、袋田の滝）の一つである。10月の中旬から下旬頃、華厳の滝を囲む山々は紅葉を迎える。日光の朝は寒いが、滝に光が当たる午前中の早い時間帯に訪れるのがベストだ。滝にかかる虹を見ることができる確率も高い。無料の観瀑台は右手にある。有料の観瀑台（大人530円）へは、建物の中にあるエレベーターで滝壺付近まで降りていく。駐車場（普通車310円）にはレストランやフードスタンドが並び、滝の見物で冷えた体に、甘酒や温かい食べ物がうれしい。
