Lufthansa Adding More Ways to Reach Japan from 2027

An expanded schedule and the return of a direct Frankfurt-Nagoya service on the agenda

Getting to Japan from Europe is set to become a little more flexible next summer, with Lufthansa expanding its Japan schedule and bringing back a direct Frankfurt–Nagoya service.

From late March 2027, Lufthansa will operate three weekly flights between Frankfurt and Nagoya, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The seasonal route gives travelers another way to arrive in central Japan without first flying into Tokyo or Osaka.

That could be particularly useful for visitors planning to explore the Chubu region. Nagoya is well connected to destinations including Kyoto, while Aichi is also a major manufacturing and automotive hub with its own mix of historic and cultural attractions.

Lufthansa is also adding a new daily Frankfurt–Tokyo-Narita service from March 28. This will operate alongside the airline’s existing daily Frankfurt–Tokyo-Haneda and Munich–Tokyo-Haneda flights, giving travelers several options when choosing where to land in the Tokyo area.

The expanded schedule is part of a broader increase in Lufthansa Group flights to Japan. SWISS will also increase its Tokyo service, with up to seven weekly flights from Zurich to Narita. Across Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, and ITA Airways, the group plans to offer up to 50 flights per week to Japan during the summer 2027 schedule, serving Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka, and Nagoya.

For travelers, the biggest change may be the additional choice of arrival points. While Tokyo remains the obvious entry point for many first-time visitors, flying directly into Nagoya can make sense for itineraries focused on central Japan and avoids adding an extra journey from the Tokyo area.

The new Lufthansa services are already available for booking, making summer 2027 Japan planning a little more flexible for travelers flying from Europe.
