For Pokémon fans visiting Japan, accommodation doesn’t get much more on-theme than this. A giant Poké Ball-inspired hotel is coming to Hokkaido, giving lucky guests the chance to actually spend the night inside.
The unusual accommodation is the result of a collaboration between Pokémon Sleep, the sleep-tracking game launched in 2023, and Japanese accommodation company NOT A HOTEL. The idea is to bring the world of Pokémon Sleep into the real world, creating a space where guests can enjoy the same sense of comfort and relaxation that a Poké Ball provides for Pokémon.
Set somewhere amid Hokkaido’s vast natural scenery, the special accommodation has been designed around the distinctive shape of a Poké Ball. Details of what the interior looks like are being kept under wraps for now, with the full reveal scheduled for September 15, 2026. However, you can get an idea of what to expect via the video below.
There is one important catch for travelers hoping to add it to their Japan itinerary, though: you can't currently book this accommodation. The Poké Ball stay is being offered as part of a special campaign, with winners receiving the opportunity to stay there. Details about how to enter will also be announced on September 15.
For Pokémon Sleep players, the collaboration feels particularly fitting. The game uses your smartphone to track and analyse your sleep, with Pokémon gathering around Snorlax based on their sleep patterns. Smartwatch data can also be integrated, making sleep itself part of the Pokémon-collecting experience.
