東福寺塔頭の一つである龍吟庵は、東福寺第三世・無関普門の住居跡とされる。1964（昭和39）年に、庭園デザイナーの重森三玲が方丈を囲む三面に、趣の異なる三つの庭を造った。方丈正面には一木一草さえも用いない「無の庭」、西には龍が黒雲を伴って海中から現れ、昇天する姿を表現した「龍の庭」、東には無関普門が少年の頃に狼に襲われて、犬に助けられた逸話を元にした「不離の庭」がある。それぞれ白、黒、赤の砂で、その庭のテーマをドラマチックに演出している。
