Cute characters, curry, secondhand books, and evening illuminations are coming together in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward for a citywide celebration featuring Rilakkuma. The popular bear is marking five years as the area's tourism ambassador with a series of activities inviting visitors to discover local neighborhoods at a relaxed pace.

The second phase of the “Relaxing Detour” campaign runs from October 19 to December 31, 2026, focusing on Jimbocho and Akihabara. Rather than following a conventional sightseeing route, visitors can explore the area's distinctive bookshops, cafés, music stores, and food culture while collecting digital stamps inspired by Rilakkuma and friends.

The free digital stamp rally includes five locations, among them the rebuilt Sanseido Bookstore in Jimbocho and mAAch ecute Kanda Manseibashi, a shopping and dining complex housed in a renovated railway structure. Collecting stamps at three locations unlocks a chance to win an exclusive digital wallpaper, while completing all five earns a limited-edition fifth-anniversary sticker, while stocks last.

Café lovers can also join a related campaign at participating venues across Chiyoda Ward. Ordering designated menu items earns visitors a collectible card featuring Rilakkuma and friends, complete with an augmented reality photo frame.

The celebration extends into the evening, too. From October 19 through February 28, 2027, anniversary illuminations will light up six facilities around Kanda, including WATERRAS and Ochanomizu Solacity. Visitors can also look forward to commemorative photo panels and special collaboration menus.

For travelers who enjoy discovering a city's character through its smaller details, the campaign offers a fun excuse to explore beyond Tokyo's most familiar attractions, with a little extra cuteness along the way.
